Build Operate and Transfer – There are instances when a Government, public institutions, private institutions or lending banks are willing to have a particular infrastructure (which are usually large-scale) but are unable to fund it due to the absence of funds, lack of the technical know-how required to execute such projects or other inhibiting reasons.
In moments like this, the Build, Operate and Transfer project delivery method becomes a viable option. The Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) is a model for infrastructural development where public (or private in rare cases) institutions give private entities the concession to finance, design, build and operate a specific property or infrastructure for a particular period (usually in years). During this period, the private organization is granted the authority to operate, maintain and collect fees from users of this asset. Once the stated period elapses, the private entity transfers ownership to the public sector partner for an agreed fee or any other condition stated in the signed agreement.
BOT projects can be:
- Highway constructions (just like we have it on the Lekki express)
- Sport centres
- Public Parks
- Market centers
- School hostels (As seen in some public universities)
- Residential estates or any other infrastructural projects requiring huge funds to accomplish.
For instance, the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Nigeria has a lot of private hostels that are built with the BOT project delivery method. This greatly reduced the hardship students faced with accommodation and at the same time, provided the school with solid student accommodations that will eventually be owned by the university.
At Lansar Aghaji & Co, we are willing and capable of being the private entity that assists Governments, public institutions, lending banks or any other category of organizations in achieving their infrastructural objectives.
As one of the leading commercial real estate and facility management firm in Abuja, we have been able to initiate and conveniently manage several large projects across the country. Since the inception of our firm, we have been able to initiate and fund several large scale residential estates, shopping malls, stores of all sizes, corporate and industrial buildings.
Real estate is one of the main areas of our specialty, we understand the role of quality infrastructure in the overall development of a nation and the dearth of it in our country. This is why we are willing to be the commercial real estate firm that enters into a Public-Private Partnership agreement with the government and other public institutions to provide quality infrastructures that will benefit all and sundry.
With the current financial strength of our nation, the Build, Operate and Transfer project delivery method remains one of the easiest ways to provide the needed infrastructure without soiling the nation in bigger debt.
If you would like to learn more about the BOT model and its intricacies or any other real estate related issues, contact us at Lansar Aghaji & Co (via any of the options contained on our contact page) and we will be glad to give you a step by step guidance.
